Elimination of sweating (hyperhidrosis) with botulinum toxin is a common procedure in medicine. Botulinum toxin (also known as Botox) is a substance that temporarily blocks nerve signals leading to muscle contraction. When applied to an area where excessive sweating is occurring, botulinum toxin weakens the activity of the sweat glands and reduces sweating at that site.
Basic information
Consultation:You must see a doctor who specializes in aesthetic medicine or dermatology before starting treatment. The doctor will assess your condition, determine the area where excessive sweating is occurring and decide on the appropriateness of using botulinum toxin.
Preparation
Before the actual procedure, it is necessary to clean and disinfect the skin in the area where the botulinum toxin is applied
Application
After local anaesthesia and disinfection, the doctor injects botulinum toxin directly into the skin in the armpit or palm area with a fine needle. The doctor uses a very thin needle to inject botulinum toxin into the sweat glands in the problem area. The number of injections depends on the extent of sweating and the doctor’s recommendations.
